MEWUSA
Background
Metal and Electrical Workers Union of South Africa is a Non-Racial, Non-Sexist, Democratic socialist union of the workers ,established and organised by the workers to fight against the frustrations of the workers with employers and to unite them with other workers in common struggle for their thoroughly democratic and social aspirations as the most revolutionary class in our modern capitalist society, the proletariat.
In a nutshell, MEWUSA is organisational platform for workers organised in our domain of operation, who recognise that the defence of the workers interests and advancement of the general welfare of the working people cannot be assigned to anyone else but it is a key task, which only the workers can accomplish and only through their united mass struggles.
As a fighting instrument of the workers, MEWUSA is a democratic organization of the workers, which is democratically controlled and accountable to them and no one else, least of all, bosses and their political lackeys like some other unions do. Strategic and tactical guidance of the union is a democratic prerogative of the workers, who resolves on all major decisions affecting MEWUSA through open and democratic processes of discussions and decision-making, in forums that are constituted by elected representatives of the ordinary members.
Executions of those decisions and daily administration of the union is entrusted to a leadership collectives constituted at various levels of the organization, by cadres who are democratically elected by the workers, regularly report to the workers and are subject to the right of withdrawal by the workers.
